One of the topics we're going to work on this week is "Web Searching". In general we tend to use Google and Yahoo but what about using other search engines? When we're looking for general topics they are good option but what happens if we want something more specifi, academic information?
In this article you'll find useful web searching tips by Debora Healey.
I selected Choose the Best Search for your Information Needs and tried "controversial issues":
1) IDEA Portal: I typed "global warming" but didn't get interesting information to be used in debates.
2) GLEAN Comparison Search: I first entered "global warming" and then selected pros and cons. To my surprise I got a list of useful links that can be used as input to prepare a debate.

Hi Maria,
ReplyDeleteGood job you did. You are successful to do web searching for your topics. You used Comparison search and it seems that this site is very appropriate for your class. I also did the same activity by doing web searching. It was very challenging. If you don't mind, you can visit my blog on http://e-teachingweb.blogspot.com/. How is about your other assignments? Have you finished your the ABCD objectives and Project plan for your classroom? Good, thanks.
Hi Rudi, I've just visited your blog which I found very interesting and left a comment. Thanks for your message. Soon I'll be posting about the project plan and context where I'm working.
